Japanese D-Cable Delayed (ign.com)

- ign.com -

November 30, 2006 - Japan's high definition community tends to use D instead of component for its high definition connection needs, but with the Wii, there'll be no choice in the matter. Nintendo Japan has announced that Wii compatible D cables won't make it out to Japanese retail until 12/9, a week after the system's launch.

On 12/2, gamers who want something better than the included AV cables (RVL-009) will have only two options: an S-video cable (RVL-010) or a component cable (RVL-011).

So does this mean a week of Zelda in S-video for those lacking component connections on their high-def sets? Not if you're willing to pay a bit more! Converters for switching between component and D are available at electronics retailers everywhere (Japanese Xbox owners may already have such a device, since Microsoft never released actual D cables for the 360's failed predecessor), so we'd suggest future Wii owners prepare in advance.
