Rainbow Six Vegas: The Perfect Soldier (IGN.com)

- IGN.com -

November 10, 2006 - In a deadly war against terrorists, your mission is simple: kill 'em all. In order to help us out, we enlisted the lead multiplayer designer of Rainbow Six Vegas, JP Cambiotti, to break down the best combinations of weapons, clothing and armor. Of course, there is no one "perfect soldier," but rather specialists that are perfect for specific situations, like recon and defense. Today, however, we create two soldiers: the perfect assault men for both attack and defend missions.

Here's what Cambiotti recommends:

"Playing the Assault-type character is one of my favorite roles to play because you're always in the thick of the action, helping your team to push forward toward their objective. And when it comes time to neutralize the objective, the Assault characters are the ones that will storm in. For a successful assault you need to coordinate your tactics with the other players on your team. The assault character needn't worry too much about being stealthy; we'll leave that to the Recon specialist.

"That said, to play the role of an Assault character you need to keep certain things in mind. You need a weapon that is versatile: good for CQB (close quarter battles) and one that can hold its own at longer ranges. You also need some protection, without sacrificing your ability to move quickly.

Stopping power.
"Here's how I like to equip my Assault character on the attack team. I like to give the assault team the look of a counter-terrorist unit.

Attack Equipment

  • SCAR-H CQC with an ACOG scope: This is a great versatile assault rifle with lots of stopping power.
  • Desert Eagle with High-Cap magazine: When you're down to your pistol, you want something with lots of stopping power.
  • Frag Grenade: Frags are great for clearing out enemies held up in defensive positions, or when they stay too close together defending the objective.
  • Smoke Grenade: Throwing a smoke is great when you're trying to make your way to the enemy base but keep getting pinned down. Toss a smoke for cover and move quickly!

    He will effing shoot you.
    Clothing
  • Tactical Helmet
  • Balaclava with Tactical Goggles: The helmet with balaclava helps define the look of a counter-terrorist unit.
  • BDU Shirt & Pants: I enjoy the classic look of the BDU.

    Armor
  • Falcon Assault Vest: This heavy-plated armor offers the protection you need to get the job done. Once you've put this piece on, you can't stack too much armor on the other body parts as it will quickly affect your mobility.
  • Vulture Combat Shoulders: Medium-grade shoulder armor that looks good with the bulkier armor.
  • Raven Recon Arms: The arms and legs have light armor to keep the mobility up.
  • Raven Recon Legs:

    Camouflage
  • Armor & helmet gets black camo while the rest uses Russian camo.

  • When playing a defender, I give these guys more of a Mercenary appearance.

    Defend Equipment
  • AK-47 with an ACOG scope: The AK is fun to use and is fairly accurate at long range when switched to singleshot.
  • Raging Bull: This revolver packs the strongest punch of all pistols.
  • Incendiary Grenade: Lethal grenade that leave behind colored smoke. Great for burning enemies alive!
  • C4: The sticky C4 charge is useful when you need to switch over to a defensive role.

    This is a bad man.
    Clothing
  • Bandana with Tiger Camouflage
  • Retro Glasses with Half-Face Mask
  • T-Shirt & Field Pants with Flecktarn Camo.

    He must work out.
    Armor
  • Diamondback Combat Vest with Tiger Camo: Medium-grade body armor that looks good and doesn't restrict mobility too much.
  • Diamondback Combat Shoulders with Tiger Camo: Medium-grade shoulder armor.
  • Diamondback Combat Arms with Tiger Camo: Medium-grade arm protection.
  • Viper Recon Legs with Tiger Camo: Light armor on the legs, covered in Tiger Camouflage.

Check back on Monday when we break down the next Perfect Soldier for the upcoming Rainbow Six Vegas.
