EA Headhunts Headgate [ News ] (totalvideogames.com)

Electronic Arts has continued to expand its operations by acquiring the Utah-based outfit, Headgate Studios. Re-branded "EA Salt Lake", the studio has in recent years been responsible for creating PC versions of both Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Madden NFL...making it more than suitable for its new remit as EA's Wii development studio(!)

The studio's familiarity with Madden and Woods will of course be gentle introduction to Wii-gaming, but surely, there has to be question marks over whether a PC-orientated developer can really offer something truly creative for Nintendo's unique system. Only time will tell...

EA has already confirmed that a number of its multi-platform IPs will be heading over to Wii, including Need for Speed Carbon and The Godfather - let's hope that the dedicated outfit will be able to offer at least an original IP in the coming months and years.
