Gears Knocks Halo 2 off top XBL Spot (ign.com)

Australia, November 27, 2006 - Thanks to the lovely Major Nelson, last week's top Xbox Live game lists have just been released. In a very swift rise to the top of the pile, Gears of War curbstomps Master Chief out of the number one position (these are the Major's words, not ours - he's obviously got access to the numbers of players who are playing each title in the lists).
We're doubtful that this will be a long-lasting phenomenon though, as we're guessing part of its recent success is a result of the collector's edition of Gears including a complimentary weekend Gold account. Not to mention that the relatively simplistic online play might not prove to be a keeper over the long term - subject to additional downloadable content. Besides, Bennett from IGN AU has pegged Call Of Duty 3 to be the number one Live title until Halo 3 is released, while the US IGN team are going nuts over Rainbow 6: Vegas.
