600,000 Wii Consoles Sold (gamespy)

- gamespy -

Nintendo has managed to instantly infuse itself with $190 million in cash from the Americas. The Japanese videogame company has sold 600,000 units of the new Wii in just eight days. Nintendo boasts that the system has sold at a rate of about one per second since its launch on November 19. Meanwhile, the Wii continues to be difficult to find on store shelves. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the top-selling Wii game for launch, with more than 454,000 copies sold. That's about 75 percent of all Wii owners.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, says, "Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units, demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season." So far there are no signs of Wii sales slowing down, and that means more gamers are going to have to get used to sore shoulders and arms as they get more exercise than they've had in years.
